UWL diabetes Forum

Diabetes is a major public health menace across the globe and it is associated with physical, emotional, and socio-economic consequences. Existing literature highlight that diabetes has a huge resource implication for NHS commissioners and service providers. Similar to other long-term conditions, diabetes cannot be cured, but it can be controlled by medication and other therapies.

Compliance with health advice is often challenging. There are many reasons responsible for failure to comply with healthcare instructions, however, it constitutes a waste of scarce resources within the National Health Service. One of the ways to improve the outcomes for people with diabetes and support their lifelong journey is to raise diabetes awareness, especially within our immediate community.

The University of West London provides training to healthcare professionals to care for our diabetes population in the hospital or community settings. The university also engages different NHS Trusts within Berkshire and London on diabetes-related issues.
